In fact, a Journal of Sexual Medicine covered the importance of a full night’s sleep when it came to increasing the odds of positive experiences. Meanwhile, lacking sleep can decrease one’s sex drive. Sleep affects hormone levels, which directly impact desire, arousal, and positive feelings. Some experts believe sleep is crucial for fostering desire, letting the individual “clear” themselves of unpleasant experiences from the day. By reducing stress, relaxation and desire increase.

Testosterone and Vitality

Testosterone is the body’s natural mojo. It gives much-needed energy boosts and increases sexual vitality. Unfortunately, lacking sleep can tank one’s testosterone levels. Due to their reliability on testosterone for daily tasks, energy, and sexual desire, men suffer greatly from lacking sleep. Men who sleep for four hours, studies show, have significantly lower testosterone levels than those who sleep for eight.

When the Day Gets Long

Long nights and early mornings might result in less action, professionally. They can also result in decreased focus, robbing the body of much-needed mental recovery time. With less sleep, the human body is forced to work with less repair time. More work mistakes are made, but they’re neither caught nor corrected. A lack of sleep, in general, makes a person sloppy. Understandably, the stress of being disorganized builds up. At the end of the day, a person’s “A game” can plummet if they’ve wasted the day on overthinking, correcting errors and feeling inadequate. Sleep also impacts the skin and waistline—which both contribute to self-confidence and perceived attractiveness.

Sleep and Fertility

An American Journal of Epidemiology study suggests that sleep deprivation lowers overall sperm count in men. The decreased sperm count is a direct result of lacking hormone secretion. A man’s secretion is dictated by his circadian clock—or his body’s natural sleep cycle. If this cycle is interrupted, his body won’t release nearly as many reproductive hormones. Across the board, lacking sleep is bad business in the bedroom. Turn off all electronics before bed, and make sure you get plenty of exercise. If you’re worried about lacking sleep in the long run, consider changing your diet. Make sure your bed is only used for sleep or sex, and stay away from junk food before hitting the hay. Your body can repair its own bad sleep schedule, but it might need a boost. Take the time out, and plan your schedule. Your sex life will thank you.
